Swimming Pools

Water, Held Still

Infinity edges, overflow pools, plunge pools and the filtration engineering that keeps them clear.

A pool is the largest piece of engineering most homes will ever contain. What you see is the water; what decides whether you enjoy it for twenty years is everything behind the wall — the shell, the balance tank, the pipe runs, the plant room and the hands that put them there.

Aquafy Studio designs and builds swimming pools across Islamabad, Rawalpindi and the surrounding valleys. We draw the pool, engineer the systems that serve it, and install both with our own site teams rather than subcontracting the parts nobody sees.

Pools we build

Infinity and overflow pools carry water over one or more edges into a channel and back to a balance tank. They are the most demanding type to build: the edge has to be level within millimetres across its full length, or the illusion collapses and the sound goes with it. We set them out with laser levels and cast the lip in a single pour.

Skimmer pools hold the water line below the coping and draw from the surface. They cost less to build and less to run, and for a family pool that is used rather than photographed, they are usually the right answer.

Plunge pools and kids pools suit courtyards, rooftops and the corner of a garden that will not take a full lane. Small water still needs full filtration — a plunge pool with an undersized plant is a plunge pool that turns green in July.

Indoor and rooftop pools bring structural and environmental questions with them: dead load on the slab, waterproofing under the shell, and — indoors — dehumidification, because a warm pool in a sealed room will otherwise condense on every cold surface it can find.

Jacuzzis and spas are built alongside pools or on their own, with their own heating, jets and balance.

What sits behind the tiles

Shell and waterproofing. Reinforced concrete, cast and cured properly, then tanked. Every failure we are called in to repair starts here.

Filtration and plant room. Pump, filter, pipework and valves sized to turn the pool over on a schedule the volume actually needs — not to a number pulled off a catalogue. The plant room is laid out so a technician can reach every valve.

Heating and cooling. Heat pumps extend the season at either end; in this climate, cooling matters for exposed pools in high summer.

Lighting. Low-voltage, sealed, positioned so the light travels through the water rather than glaring back at anyone sitting beside it.

Finishes and decking. Mosaic, tile or plaster inside; stone, timber or composite around the edge, laid to fall so water leaves the deck instead of standing on it.

How a pool gets built

1. Site visit and brief. We look at the space, the access, the water table and how you actually intend to use the pool.

2. Design. Layout, sections and 3D views, with the mechanical and electrical drawings issued alongside them rather than afterwards.

3. Costing. A written quotation itemised by stage, so you can see what the shell costs against what the plant costs.

4. Excavation and shell. Dig, steel, shutter, pour, cure.

5. Services. Plumbing and electrical first fix, pressure-tested before anything is covered.

6. Waterproofing and finishes. Tanking, tiling, coping and decking.

7. Commissioning. Fill, balance the water, set the plant, and walk you through running it.

8. Maintenance. Scheduled servicing, chemical management and repairs, for pools we built and pools we did not.

Renovation

An older pool that leaks, will not hold clarity or looks dated rarely needs replacing. Re-tanking, re-tiling, re-piping and a new plant room will usually give you a better pool than the original for a fraction of a rebuild — and we will tell you honestly when that is not the case.

Swimming Pools — common questions

What does a swimming pool cost in Islamabad?

Cost is driven by size, type and finish. A compact skimmer pool with a standard plant is the entry point; an infinity pool costs substantially more, because the edge detail, balance tank and larger plant are all additional work. Excavation conditions matter too — rock or a high water table adds cost before the shell is poured. We quote in writing, itemised by stage, after a site visit.

How long does construction take?

A straightforward family pool typically runs eight to twelve weeks from excavation to commissioning. Infinity and overflow pools, indoor pools and anything with difficult access take longer. Concrete curing sets the floor on the programme and cannot safely be compressed.

What is the difference between a skimmer pool and an overflow pool?

A skimmer pool holds its water line below the coping and draws from the surface through skimmer units. An overflow pool fills to the brim and spills over the edge into a channel, returning through a balance tank. Overflow pools look better and skim the surface more evenly; they also cost more to build and run, because of the balance tank, the extra pipework and the millimetre tolerance the edge demands.

Do you build indoor and rooftop pools?

Yes. Both need structural sign-off before design begins — a filled pool is a serious load. Indoor pools also need dehumidification, or the room condenses. We work with your structural engineer, or bring one in.

Can you renovate a pool somebody else built?

Yes, and a good share of our pool work is renovation. Leaks, failed waterproofing, tired tiling, undersized filtration and dated lighting are all fixable. We survey first and tell you plainly whether renovating or rebuilding is the better use of the budget.

Do you maintain pools after handover?

Yes. We offer scheduled maintenance covering water balance, filter cleaning, plant servicing and seasonal opening and closing — for pools we built and for pools we did not.

How much running cost should I plan for?

The two meaningful costs are electricity for the pump and heating, and chemicals. Pump sizing and run-time scheduling make the largest difference, which is why we size the plant to the pool rather than fitting the biggest unit available. A cover cuts heat and evaporation loss more than any other single measure.
